Barry Fitzgerald is originally from Limerick, Ireland and has worked and lived in the Brainport Eindhoven Region for nearly two years. Barry is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and has recently published his first book ´Secret of Superhero Science´.
LIFE AS A RESEARCH SCIENTIST IN THE BRAINPORT REGION
Barry Fitzgerald moved to Eindhoven in September 2014, as he found himself a job as a researcher at the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems located at the TU/e campus. After a year, he decided to switch to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and joined the Multi-scale Modelling of Multi-Phase Flows group. Although there was a change in track, Barry is still in touch with his former colleagues as he continues to collaborate with them. Currently, his main research is focused on fluidized beds, which are used in various industrial, chemical and pharmaceutical applications. According to him, “TU/e has an excellent reputation as a technological university that focuses on applied research, and has great resources and funding available. As a result, TU/e profiles itself as the university where innovation starts. In addition, the people working at TU/e are exceptional professionals″.
Originally Barry is a computational physicist, which involves knowledge of computer programming and physics. In the department where he currently works, he also interacts with people with a chemistry background. “This is very beneficial, as it helps me to see the bigger picture of the research and to learn about details from other projects. ″
